Animal Crossing: New Horizons restricts players to one island per console

New information has emerged regarding Animal Crossing: New Horizons, confirming that each Nintendo Switch can only house a single island.

New Horizons follows players as they wash up on a charmingly adorable deserted island, having to make it their home by setting up camp, gathering resources and befriending a bunch of friendly animals. Obviously, you’ll be paying off a debt to Tom Nook, too.

This nugget of unfortunate news was uncovered by AC Pocket News, who noticed the disclaimer on Nintendo of Australia’s website earlier this week. It seems that even across multiple profiles, only one island can be stored on each respective system.

“Up to 8 players with registered accounts on a Nintendo Switch console can live on one shared island, and up to four residents of one island can play simultaneously on one console. Please note: only one island can exist per Nintendo Switch console, irrespective of the number of user accounts registered to or copies of the game used on one console. One Nintendo Switch and one copy of the game is required for each unique island.”

This will be unfortunate for households who only own a single Nintendo Switch and each want to create their own distinct island, seems you’ll need another console and copy of the game to make the most of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Set to launch on March 20, 2020, the latest entry in Nintendo’s beloved series has been years in the making, with fans positively frothing at the mouth to get their hands on it. This news certainly puts a damper on things, but everything else we’ve seen from it looks fantastic.

Here’s hoping it isn’t subject to another delay, since it currently stands as biggest Nintendo Switch exclusive to land in 2020, although we imagine many more are yet to even be announced.
