BlackBerry has announced its second Android handset, which it says is the most secure ever to run the operating system.
According to the Canadian firm, the new DTEK50 offers fastest delivery of security patches, as well as secure booting that ensures the device has not been tampered with since the last restart.
The £275 / $299 mid-ranger also offers the DTEK by BlackBerry app that is designed to let users know when their privacy is at risk.

However, amid the impressive security features, is a very un-BlackBerry-like design. As Android Police points out, it appears the DTEK50 is a rebranded version of the Alcatel Idol 4.

So, that means the handset isn’t built or designed by BlackBerry, but that the firm is using Alcatel as a manufacturing partner.
As for the phone itself, it has a 5.2-inch 1080p display and a Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of built in storage.
There’s also a 2610mAh battery pack, but those snapping up the device from BlackBerry will also get a 12600mAh mobile battery pack.
The BlackBerry DTEK500 will ship on August 8.
