Nintendo finally unveiled its upcoming console in the form of the Switch last week, after months of rumours and speculation.
The Nintendo Switch, built under the codename ‘NX’, is a hybrid console and handheld that features a tablet-like design, a docking station, detachable controllers, and a kickstand.
But it seems Nintendo has more plans for the extra hardware that comes with the console. Speaking to Bloomberg, CEO Tatsumi Kimishima said, in reference to the initial launch trailer: “By no means was that everything.”

Suggesting that the Switch itself is part of a larger hardware setup, Kimishima added: “It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might be better to call them add-on hardware. It’s probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array.”
Just what the extra hardware is remains a mystery at this point, but Nintendo could introduce new detachable controllers with extra buttons and functionality.
When asked whether the as yet unrevealed extra hardware will include a VR headset, Kimishi has this to say: “If you asked as if this might be possible in the future, certainly we can’t say no.
“…I can’t say that we have no interest in VR because VR offers new ways of playing, but that depends on what kind of software can be played.”
We’re expecting the Switch to go on sale in March 2017 worldwide, although pricing is not yet confirmed. Nintendo is also planning to reveal more about the console at an event in January, when more details about software are expected to be given.
