Polk Audio adds Chromecast-enabled MagniFi 2 to its soundbar range

Polk Audio has expanded its MagniFi series of soundbars with the latest addition being the MagniFi 2.

The Polk MagniFi 2 (£499) joins the MAX, MAX SR and Mini soundbars as part of the American brand’s MagniFi range, reducing the entry-level price of its multi-channel home cinema bars in the process.

The MagniFi 2 is another slim unit, and at just two-inches tall, the bar shouldn’t impeded the TV’s IR signal. Tucked inside the unit are four 1-inch by 3-inch full-range drivers, two 0.75-inch tweeters and an 8-inch ported subwoofer. The drivers work in concert with Polk Audio’s Stereo Dimensional Array (SDA) technology, which the company says can present a huge soundstage and offers “outstanding” fidelity. The MagniFi 2 also features a 3D Audio Mode to create virtual height channels.

Connections include three HDMI 2.0 inputs that are 4K HDR compatible and an Optical input. For easy set-up, you won’t have to worry about supplying your own cables as the MagniFi 2 ships with HDMI and Optical cables in the packaging.

Wireless connections cover Bluetooth and Chromecast, with the latter offering the ability to stream content from Amazon Music HD, Apple Music, Roon, Qobuz, Spotify, Tidal and more via an external device. Google Assistant compatibility also allows for users to change volume and find information with their voice.

With EQ settings for Movies, Music and Sports, users can optimise the soundbar and subwoofer levels for the type of audio experience they want. Further customisation is possible through Polk Audio’s Voice Adjust technology, which allows users to customise dialogue delivery. Night mode reduces bass levels and amps up dialogue without changing the master volume.

On the launch, Michael McCole, senior product marketing manager for sound bars at Polk Audio said: “Many soundbars improve TV sound dramatically, but few offer a compelling immersive surround sound experience. Using tools like Polk Audio’s patented SDA technology, 3D Audio Mode for virtual height and Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, the MagniFi 2 soundbar is a significant step closer to a multi-channel listening experience at a much more attainable price.”

The Polk Audio MagniFi 2 is available to purchase now from authorised dealers for the price of £499.
