The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 could be officially unveiled at IFA 2014 next month alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
September could be the month for the Samsung Galaxy “phablets” as a new leak suggests the Mega 2 will be outed at IFA in Berlin.
The firmware for a phone with the model number SM-G750 has been made available online. This model number is believed to relate to the Galaxy Mega 2 and the firmware’s availability suggests it is very near launch.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is due to launch on September 3 at a special Samsung Unpacked event at IFA. It’s possible that Samsung will launch the large screen Mega 2 at the same time, or at least around that date.
Of course, the Mega family have never been Samsung’s best sellers, so we doubt such a launch would be able to anywhere near outshine the Note 4.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to come with a 5.9-inch 720p HD display, downsizing the original Samsung Galaxy Mega’s 6.3-inch option.
It will reportedly run on a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU with 2GB of RAM. That processor may sound a little weedy, but it is one of Qualcomm’s first 64-bit processors.
Internally you’ll get 8GB of storage, but this is expandable via microSD card. That space will be useful for storing the photos you’ll be taking with its 13-megapixel camera.
Measuring up at 163.6 x 84.9 x 8.6mm, the Mega 2 will definitely still be a mid-ranged affair albeit a marked upgrade over its predecessor.
The recently released firmware also suggests it will run the latest version of Google’s mobile OS – Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
This leak follows last week’s leaked images and specs for the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2. It’s all pointing towards an imminent launch at this stage.
