Ultimate Ears unveils Boom 3 and Megaboom 3 Bluetooth speakers

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 colours

Ultimate Ears has announced its latest family of Bluetooth speakers at IFA 2018: the Boom 3 and Megaboom 3.

Despite the name, this is technically only the second iteration of the Megaboom, but Ultimate Ears is skipping a number to line up with the third Boom.

The Boom 3 family has some significant upgrades, chief of which is a new ‘Magic’ button. This can play, pause and skip tracks, as well as load up playlists you’ve added in the updated Boom app. You can turn on the speaker and launch straight into the music. This feature will only be compatible with Apple Music and Deezer at launch, but Ultimate Ears is says others will follow.

The new IP67 rating means the Boom 3 speakers range are dustproof, as well as waterproof under 1m of water for 30 minutes.
The Bluetooth has been upgraded Bluetooth range has been upgraded to up to 45 metres. Micro USB is still the charging connection of choice, but there’s now a contact point at the bottom of the speakers for wireless charging. You’ll need the Power Up accessory for that (sold separately, £34.99).

The Boom 3 costs £129.99 and the Megaboom 3 costs £169.99. As always, they come in several colours: Night (Black), Sunset (Red), Lagoon (Blue), and Ultraviolet (Purple). Check out our Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 review.
